Canadian Pacific Lawn Bowling Club is hosting the annual Celebration of Life Tournament on Monday, September 8, and they would like to extend a last‑minute invitation to any of our members who would like to take part.
This event was created about thirteen years ago by Ron Leslie after the loss of his wife, Donna. It began as a cancer research fundraiser in her honour and has grown into a broader recognition of members, families, and friends who have been touched by the disease.
The format is simple and fun. You play three games of Mixed Triples, with players from all clubs mixed evenly across the sides. Everyone is encouraged to wear their loudest, brightest outfits. Each game is 10 ends. After the second game, our club provides a free BBQ lunch. Entry is $10, with all proceeds going to cancer research. A cheque is typically presented to Bowl For The Cure at JDF later in the month.
This year, their club sponsors at Chartwell Living are generously supplying salads and ice cream to add to the festivities. After the final game, they run a series of toonie skill challenges to help boost the fundraising total.
If any of our members would like to join in, they can email susanlcrisp@gmail.com. Please include your preferred playing position and whether you’d like a hot dog, smokie, or hamburger. A veggie option will be available as well.
The cut‑off for entries is Saturday evening. CP will likely field around 24 participants, which means there are approximately 24 additional spots available.
