In May 2007, Mayor Stewart Young had the vision of bringing trolley buses to the City of Langford to provide community transportation for residents and visitors. Mayor Young wished to provide a service that would be accessible to everyone, with ridership being by donation and essentially free. The service was also presented as a green initiative which promoted public transportation by moving people out of their personal vehicles and onto the Trolley. With inaugural service every hour on the hour, the trolley visited numerous stops between Bear Mountain and West Shore Town Centre. Due to early success, the City acquired a second trolley. Currently, service has expanded outside of the City boundaries and also serves the City of Colwood and the West Shore Recreation Centre.
During the 2009 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships, the City of Langford will be providing service of the Trolley to transport athletes between the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel and the West Shore Recreation Centre greens at set times to accommodate the tournament schedule.
The Lawn Bowlers of Canada would like to thank Mayor Stewart Young, the City Council and the people of the City of Langford for sponsoring the 2009 Canadian Lawn Bowling Championships. The athletes, umpires and guests are headquartered at the Four Point by Sheraton Hotel, well situated to main shopping areas, local restaurants and pubs. We aim to be supporting the local economy during our 10 day stay in the West Shore area.
